BIOGRAPHY
In geography, a meridian line "crosses" the earth from north pole to south pole. In astronomy, it's a circle that crosses the heavens, rising from the northern horizon and descending to the southern horizon.
In music, Meridian Cross is an original, alternative rock band from California. Not a Christian rock band. Not a new-age band.
Todd MacKenzie and Mark Rhodes, the creative force behind Meridian Cross, have collaborated together for almost 10 years. MacKenzie's songwriting influences range from legends such as Elton John and Johnny Cash to Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode and U2. Rhodes' influences vary from pop/rock artists such as a-ha, Big Country, Wall of Voodoo and Filter to lesser known artists such as 16 Horsepower, Justin Sullivan of New Model Army and Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits.
Together, MacKenzie and Rhodes create an original sound that lies somewhere between artists such as INXS, U2, The Killers and Snow Patrol. Rhodes' often acerbic lyrics delve into the addictions of fame, religion, media, reality television, alcohol and relationships.
The band's live performances feature drummer Bill Holmes and bassist Gabe De Anda. Together, they have opened for the Thrill Kill Kult, Zeromancer, Pigface, the Chameleons UK, Jesus Jones, Midge Ure, Simple Minds, Nina Hagen, Human Drama, the Mission UK and others.
For the past year and a half, Meridian Cross has been writing and recording "All for Our Gods." The 10-song CD captures the band at its very best. Their previous musical efforts have been featured in a variety of television shows, commercials and films (please see Media Placement) thanks in part to New York's Pump Audio Publishing with whom Meridian Cross has a non-exclusive contract.
Currently the band is hard at work rehearsing for live performances scheduled for later this year.
